Excellent tasting menu

The tasting menu was superb with lots of unusual combinations. We didn't try the wine tasting selection but gathered from others there (at the next door table) that the tasting selection was good too. There are several reception rooms to sit in the evening with log fires and comfortable chairs. The staff were friendly and helpful both in person and on the phone beforehand. Our room was good, but at the back of the hotel and I think we would choose a lakeside view another time as those rooms are bigger.
Just one word of warning, the satnav location took us to the farm track next door so follow the hotel's own directions! I thought this was just our car but another guest had the same problem.

Short Break at Merewood Country Hotel

Stayed for 3 nights in September with my wife and dog. Staff very helpful and friendly and excellent location. Breakfast and evening meals from Grill menu were very good. Very dog friendly and we had table set up in drawing room so that we could eat with our dog with us. Will return

An amazing country house

What an amazing place to stay, everything was perfect. Rooms very comfortable and the food delicious and very gourmet. A great retreat for my partners 40th birthday

Friendly and very comfortable

We got a lovely welcome with our dog. The food was excellent. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed. Lovely luxury toiletries and a coffee machine. Very impressive. The staff were very attentive. Especially all the girls. We wished we could have stayed longer. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay there again. Lovely views as well.

Beautiful hotel ....BUT

We had a lovely stay, first class afternoon tea beautiful hotel and excellent dinner. Our breakfast was also good but the young girls serving definitely need some training. The buffett was nearly empty when some guests came in {they were not late}.  When a couple of guests asked if it would be replenished the answer was "well I suppose I could get you something if you really want".  What they ordered then came only 2 minuets before their cooked order which was banged down on the table even though they had only just started eating their fruit. This did not happen to us but it was still upsetting to see such bad service in what otherwise is a very good hotel.
