Wonderful stay

Philip, Merseyside, stayed: December 2019

This is the best hotel we've stayed at in the lake district and we've stayed in a few! The welcome was so friendly. The hotel is luxurious but also very dog friendly. Our dog was given her own bowls and food, and even a sausage at breakfast. We also brought our baby and they were very accommodating of her, although there is no lift so the buggy does have to be carried up to the rooms.
We had lunch and dinner here and both were excellent.
The hotel is opposite a visitor's centre with lots of activities such as zip lining and boat hire. We'll definitely be returning!

Fabulous

Kirsty, Cumbria, stayed: November 2019

Lovely, friendly, cosy hotel. Log fires and wonderful food. A real treat the food was exceptional, afternoon tea luxurious and evening tasting menu fine dining with friendly staff nothing too much trouble. The drinks were also reasonably priced. Lovely views of the lake and modern well presented bedrooms with lovely touches like a coffee machine and jar of sweets!
Will definitely be back

A gem amid Cumbrian splendour

CW, Lancashire, stayed: August 2019

An overnight stay with our dog before heading back to home and work.
Splendid house and grounds, although house (like so many) now looking a little jaded in parts.
Very welcoming and helpful staff and very dog-friendly. As expected, we couldn't eat in the restaurant but a table was set up in the residents lounge for all our meals and our waiter did everything he could to ensure we were comfortable and looked after. We had afternoon tea (delicious but, as always, too much sweet and not enough savoury), the excellent seven course taster menu for dinner and full english for breakfast.
A great stay and good value for the quality provided.
Many thanks !!

Gorgeous setting / tasting menu is fab (just needs some investment)

Katherine, Lancashire, stayed: June 2019

Had an amazing stay and would definitely go again - opposite Brockholes on wideners which is a great place for a look around is this hotel - set in an elevated position with stunning grounds (we went for a walk and saw a deer ). The tasting menu was fab and well worth doing and breakfast was top notch! We liked the fact it was less touristy being set back a bit and enjoyed a chilled stay. The only down side is the rooms and bathroom need some upgrades to suit the grandeur of the setting but it was clean with stunning views and a comfy bed so that wouldn t put me off.

Special event

John A, North Yorkshire, stayed: October 2018

Our stay at Merewood was a special event and the hotel provided us with a very enjoyable trip away. The staff were all excellent and the food was exeptional. Our only disappointment was that we did not have a room with a view for our special event.

Honest Review

Anon, stayed: September 2018

*Hotel in lovely position with views of Lake Windermere
*Nice driveway approach
*Service not so good for afternoon tea, had to find a staff member to serve us some tea?
*Room one dated desperately in need of make over, poor quality mattress, poor nights sleep, did report when checking out so hopefully another hotel guest will not experience this.
*Hotel very cold especially on a damp September day, windows in room were full of condensation (lake view?)
*Meal was lovely 7 course roasting menu
*Breakfast room had been renovated to a high standard, I do feel the hotel would benefit by looking after customers by renovating other areas.
*Reception lady (sorry did not catch her name) was very helpful and accommodating
*overall not a very pleasant stay to celebrate husbands birthday.
