Lovely stay

J johnston, stayed: February 2025

The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a lovely room and a very comfy bed. I liked the size of the room and fact there were two comfy armchairs in our room. The bathroom was good and shower hot. In the evening we ate in the restaurant and from canap s in the conservatory to dessert the food was excellent. Breakfast the next day was good with a varied choice of cooked and cold foods. We will be back

The only criticism I have is that the menu in both restaurant and bistro are very limited everything else was fine.

Mid-week Break

PC, West Yorkshire, stayed: March 2025

This was a retirement gift from work and we had a relaxing couple of days. A hotel with character and where the service and food were excellent. Gourmet Restaurant not really our thing but we enjoyed the Bistro which had lots of choice. Appleby itself was delightful. We had a wander around the town and found an excellent coffee shop, followed by a stroll alongside the river. Thoroughly enjoyable break.

Overall

MM, West Yorkshire, stayed: September 2024

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room needs a small table between the chairs. Food was poor in both dining room and bistro - most expensive things in dining room being the steak and lamb were tough and inedible. Bistro food quite tasteless. Wine was over priced. Enjoyed our break but would not return due to the food.

Great place for a country house break

KI, stayed: April 2024

We booked a two night country house break at the Appleby Manor which included a fine dining dinner and a brasserie meal. Both were excellent.

All the staff in the hotel were very friendly, efficient and obviously well trained. The hotel is slightly old fashioned but in a nice way and suits its surroundings

Lovely location but hotel a little dark and tired!

Judith, Northumberland, stayed: May 2024

Friendly staff, lovely location but hotel a little dark and tired! Hotel room too warm! Fine dining was very good but not so the Bistro - lack of choice of food

A very welcoming break

TR, Rutland, stayed: May 2024

A very pleasant experience. Delightful staff. Lovely view from the windows of bedroom, dining room and sitting room. The only problem was the ensuite bathroom was extremely cramped. It would have been much better to simply have a walk-in shower rather than a full-length spa bath. It was impossible to reach the soap if you were having a bath and no space to move around.
