Weekend Away

Anon, stayed: May 2023

The hotel reception and rooms were first class. The location was perfect, just swerve the restaurant unless you have limited time. On both occasion the service was atrocious, we waited over 30 minutes on both occasions to be served.

HH, North Yorkshire, stayed: May 2023

We had a wonderful stay food expensive but good. Had 3 nights. The down side as pensioners we were kept awake half the night on the last night by a family. It did spoil it, the children screaming till 11 then water sounded like bath water running on & off! until at least 1am. The night manager spoke to them but they ignored him water running on & off was not funny as was so loud...
So we will stay again But not next to a family room. Manager Jake was very good offered a free afternoon tea or pay our bar bill but we paid cash so gave us a bottle of wine, as we were leaving after breakfast no afternoon tea possible.
Sadly we were both tired out the next day despite that it was lovely & the location was perfect ...

Disappointing

ME, Fife, stayed: October 2023

Not up to 4* standard.
Lounge area tired and grubby looking.
Staff were very pleasant.
Dinner was ok although they got one of the ordered courses wrong.
Breakfast was poor, muffins for the eggs Benedict were hard and tough and eggs were undercooked.
Saucers and milk were whipped away by the waiter before we were finished with our tea and coffee.
Overall location excellent but hotel definitely not up to a 4* and overpriced.

Mr and Mrs Gaunt

Deborah G, Flintshire, stayed: December 2023

Service in restaurant lacking, not very attentive, ordered salmon salad with anchovies but no anchovies! No one came to see if meal was ok until at end of meal, when clearing up explained to waiter who just looked embarrassed, was shocked when food bill arrived surcharges added up to 50 , was not clear what was and wasn t included in meal, breakfast was very poor, ordered bacon and sausage bap, dry overcooked bap, dry single rasher of bacon and a sausage cut in half, very stingy !
Definitely would not eat there again!
Room was ok just a long walk as right at far end of hotel, no one offered to carry bags

We had a lovely time but were very disappointed with the rooms.
Would probably stay again but not in a standard room.

A very expensive experience.

Anon, stayed: November 2023

The staff were lovely. They were friendly and helpful. I was upgraded to a room with a lake view, which was a nice gesture, but I felt the room was a bit 'tired' and needed brightening up. I did find the food was not to my liking. It was pretentious and I felt there should have been some plainer alternative choices. I also thought the price for the stay was extortionate - not able to access a discount for a single traveler was ridiculous. A boat trip for 2 when I was on my own and a meal for 2 on the first night was unfair and inflexible, I thought, but whether this was down to the Offpeak Luxury Voucher Company, I'm not sure.

In need of refurbishment

DJ, North Yorkshire, stayed: December 2023

Free dinner on first night was very poor. Both ordered souffle as a starter and received a charred concoction in a dish. Any decent chef would not have let that starter leave the kitchen even the waiter looked embarassed.
Dinner menu poor but they redeemed themselves with the breakfast which was good.
Room poor, old furniture, chipped sink in the bathroom, windows with plantation blinds that did not open or close properly. Definitely in need of refurbishment which spoilt the overall experience.
Staff were lovely, location is beautiful and handy for lake trips and Bowness centre.
Would definitely stay here again after it has undergone refurbishment as the room spoilt the experience.
