Excellent hotel with wonderful staff. The restaurant has a very good atmosphere and stunning views over Windermere. Our dinner was amazing, and the service excellent.
Sadly the breakfast did not live up to expectations: the buffet lacked fresh fruit and the cooked food, cooked to order , was not prepared to order! Fried eggs were cold and hard; eggs Benedict were served on unbuttered, cold muffins, and pancakes were cold and floating in luke warm syrup.
Although the breakfast disappointed, we would still return, but would expect better food at breakfast.
Avoid if you are a vegan
The three course evening meal was part of the package and despite having rung the hotel to ensure that a vegan option was available, there was nothing on the menu. The chef was requested to provide some options and the best that was offered was the potato, carrots and parsnips side dishes, which is exactly what I received (and not even nicely presented on a plate, but in three buckets!). The veg were so dry that I had to request mustard to help them go down!). Extremely disappointing, so if you have any dietary requirements, I would suggest that you book a different hotel.
Relaxing break
We had a lovely 2night stay. The food was lovely, but I have to mention the staff. They were always pleasant with a smile on their faces. Very patient and alway wulling to help anyone.
Well done
Great Location, great break
Lovely hotel, Staff friendly, food we had excellent, location 5*
An enjoyable stay
There is no doubt that the hotel is in a superb location, with its views over Lake Windermere. The public rooms are well-appointed and presented. Our room was extremely clean with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was especially smart with the best hotel shower I have experienced in a long time! However, the room itself was a fair distance from the rather antiquated lift and involved several flights of stairs, some short, some longer. OPL customers should be aware of this if they struggle with stairs, especially since it is not possible to upgrade to a different room. Apparently there is a shorter route than the one we were originally shown, but we were not informed about this until we checked out!
The restaurant was very smart and the staff attentive when not having to attend to a coach party at the same time. Breakfast was fine, just don't order bacon which had obviously been sitting on a hotplate for a long time. Evening meals were also fine, although choice was limited.
I think that I would only choose to stay again if there was an option to upgrade the room.
Beautiful setting, attractive decor, some glitches
Stunning views. lovely friendly staff .Restaurant beautiful with stunning views. Menu disappointing. Definitely not gourmet standard. Poached eggs stone cold.
Had requested a ground floor room. Indeed got a ground floor room- accessed by a lift, followed by a long corridor with a few steps up, ending with a full flight down of steep narrow stairs. Not what we had hoped for! We do understand difficult lay out of old hotels with extensions.
Reception staff could not have been more helpful. Told them that despite the glitches this time we would try it again. Friendly gentleman walked me around the hotel showing me the layout and best rooms to ask for next time.
Enjoyable stay
Check in went smoothly but no offer of taking bags to the room was offered
Quite a mission to find the room.
Bedroom was ok overlooking the car park.
Bathroom could be upgraded.
The meal in restaurant was fab. Excellent service from our waitress.
Breakfast was mediocre.
The situation of the hotel was amazing with spectacular over the lake.
