Old England Hotel
The hotel is in a central location in Bowness on Windermere. It really couldn't be better placed. It is an old building but is well furnished. Some areas need updating with carpets and furniture badly in need of replacing or looking at. The restaurant is beautifully appointed with wonderful views over the lake. The food is very good. Our only problem is the menu which is the same every day. Whilst understanding this we felt that there should be a special added every day so that you don t get very bored when staying for a week. The staff in general were very good and helpful. We had two issues. One waiter was exempt from wearing a mask but we felt shouldn t have been serving in the restaurant in the current climate. Secondly we had a dreadful signal on our tv which made it unwatchable. With the current political situation we felt we need to be able to have access. It wasn t dealt with and only on the last evening was offered another room by a concierge that had just come back from a few days off.
On the whole a very good hotel and we would stay again.

Very good hi
Nice stay
Booked a package via Country Hotel Breaks. Nice room. We greatly enjoyed breakfast and dinner on the first night.
Staff were great.
The fire alarm in the middle of the night not ideal but these things happen I suppose - certainly would have been worse if hotel had actually been on fire.
Had to take the onus on some things ie making sure that spa credit as part of package was actually applied.
We didn t enjoy the spa facilities for several reasons - didn t meet our expectations in that we thought it would be a bigger area, but largely it was uncomfortable because it was busy and other guests monopolising the pool - obviously that s out of the hotel s control but I would suggest offering time slots sometimes.
Spa treatments not particularly good value for money.
Excellent stay in hotel of character
Loved the position of the hotel, easy access to the lake with beautiful views. Views from the lounge, restaurant and swimming pool were amazing. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We preferred to eat in the lounge and were impressed by the quality of the menu there. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the Old English.
WEEKEND BREAK AT BOWNESS
Lovely part of the country to visit with many things to do and see and Old England Hotel & Spa really ticks all the boxes for a relaxing and pampering experience. We will visit again definitely.
Waterside weekend
Good basic hotel . Room was clean and tidy , but not much of a view and doves were nesting , so a bit noisy . The restaurant food was good , although needs a warmer atmosphere . The spa was very good and staff very good and helpful.
Weekend away with friends
We finally arrived after being postponed twice through lockdown. We were friends celebrating my retirement. The hotel is so luxurious and elegant. All 3 rooms had views of the lake. The staff on reception were so welcoming. The restaurant with lake views served a beautiful evening meal. The sticky toffee pudding with fudge bits was the best pudding we have had for a long time. Only criticism for the restaurant was the breakfast service was slow. Could I point out being a malt whisky drinker I found your prices for malt whisky was expensive for average whisky. We did have a lovely weekend.
