Belated Christmas gift.
We enjoyed our stay overall. A nice touch when we arrived was the disabled spot I had reserved actually had my name on it. The staff were friendly and helpful. We reported the tv in the room not working and in less than ten minutes a maintenance man was there tending to it. We don t usually watch tv when on a break but it was raining when we arrived. The first morning housekeeping came to service the room but we weren t ready to go out. We asked if they could come back in an hour. Yes no problem was the reply. When we returned later the room was spick and span. The location is a little off the beaten track but well worth it. The only downside, which had nothing to do with the hotel, was the weather. We had a lot of rain and because of this we were unable to enjoy the gardens.

A unique venue with lots of charm
The public rooms of the hotel were decorated with a quirky charm and elegance, paying due homage to Beatrix Potter who had owned and lived in the house. The gardens were lovely to look out on from our well positioned room. The breakfast was very good, the dinner was average. Our room was very big and clean but we felt that the furniture needed updating, without making it modern, to make it more comfortable.
Cocktails at the bar were excellent.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone interested in Beatrix Potter and Olde World charm.
Lovely place to stay
Hotel experience was lovely, we were given a luxury hotel gift voucher and chose to spend it here. If we stayed again would use a different booking site as cheaper deals available.
Appreciated the rule - no children in dining room after 7pm. This could be expanded to breakfast too as there was a toddler who enjoyed screaming through out breakfast and the parents had little control in stopping this
Lovely night away
I booked dinner, bed and breakfast and afternoon tea for myself and my husband. The hotel was very nice and quintessentially English. Our room, 209, was large and had lovely views of the gardens and Lake Windermere in the distance. The afternoon tea and dinner were superb but breakfast was a little underwhelming, the choice and quantity were limited. The staff were helpful but they could use a little more training to ensure first class service. We had a very relaxing night away which is just what we wanted.
A special treat
We stayed to celebrate my wife's birthday and had the afternoon tea and 5 course gourmet dinner - both were excellent, as was our room for the night.
We felt very safe from a Covid-19 perspective and feel that the Hotel did everything possible to keep both staff and guests safe.
A special treat in these strange times.
