Lovely night away
I booked dinner, bed and breakfast and afternoon tea for myself and my husband. The hotel was very nice and quintessentially English. Our room, 209, was large and had lovely views of the gardens and Lake Windermere in the distance. The afternoon tea and dinner were superb but breakfast was a little underwhelming, the choice and quantity were limited. The staff were helpful but they could use a little more training to ensure first class service. We had a very relaxing night away which is just what we wanted.
Very friendly and helpful staff lovely location
Great stay
Great hotel we were able to walk to Bowness and back no problem . The food in the restaurant was of a high standard, our room had a great view of the lake and it was very large. The staff were a credit to the hotel.

The Hotel is in excellent surroundings and very welcoming and if you wish to relax this is the place for you.
The standard of the staff was excellent, the cleanliness was excellent, I would highly recommend this accommodation.
A delightful two-day break (in the Lake District}
We were made most welcome on arrival and escorted to our accommodation - a delightful room on the second floor with views out over the gardens and to the lake. The room was spacious and well appointed as was the en-suite, Using the bar before dinner we were well looked after by a barman knowledgeable about his stock and many aspects of the environs near and beyond the hotel. The bar was clearly a focal point for the various guests both young and old to enjoy the ambience of a country house party. Dinner on both evenings offered a good choice of menu, was well presented by an attentive waiting staff and was in keeping with the level of rosettes awarded.
Our 'package' included on one day a service of afternoon tea - delicious, but a word of advice - leave some time between the afternoon tea and the dinner, given that both meals, like the breakfasts, are substantial!
All in all a delightful break in the Lake District, but as ever be prepared for the (wet!) weather - something over which the grand hotel has no control.
Relaxing weekend break
We arrived early afternoon and ordered our tea straight away as we did not want to eat it too close to dinner. A wise move as the tea was plentiful with delicious savouries and cakes. The service was friendly and I was impressed that the waiter bringing the amuse bouche at dinner brought a mushroom free one for me without any reminder of my allergy. The food and wine were excellent and the setting is glorious with a fabulous view of the lake from our room. The package was very good value as we have paid significantly more in similar hotels around Windermere. The hotel itself was welcoming with a fire in the lounge and nicely presented rooms.

This could be a really fantastic hotel but needs to pay attention to detail. Our room was not serviced one day with no apology or offer to clean it. Had the impression that the hotel was being run as cheaply as possible and without professional staff. A false economy.
