Penny-pinching place where every little thing costs extra. Poor customer focus (e.g. had only Jam for breakfast toast - no Marmite. No Britvic tomato juice at the bar. If you wanted two of the, very small, kipper fillets for breakfast, they said that would cost extra). Bill for your stay was sent to your email address - no print out of bill upon leaving. Had a massage in the spa ( 80) and, with only 30 mins until closing, was denied access to therapy pool because I could get into real trouble if I allowed that as you are not allowed in without paying ). They seem to have decided what they are prepared to provide, and won t deviate from it. Public rooms rather cold. Make you come down to the conservatory for a drink before ordering dinner - rather cheeky.
Our new favourite British hotel by a country mile
Our stay was to celebrate my husband 70th birthday(a surprise). He was completely delighted with every aspect of our break, as was I. The food was divine, the spa so incredibly relaxing and the lovely log fire was delightful. We loved it so much we want to return in the summers.
Friendly staff excellent food and service. Very comfortable room. Good location.
Dreadful stay
Room was dark dusty and extremely hot. Too hot and windows painted shut. Managed to open one slightly but drapes covered in paint and dirty. Very unpleasant.. room remained excessively hot and airless. Fans just flicked dust everywhere and we sneezed and wheezed badly. Awful.
Bathroom was also excessively hot. Even cold water was scalding hot!
Unable to cool down and very uncomfortable.
Nowhere to hand clothes etc. No luggage rack.
Wine off- mouldy served in two large glasses. never saw bottle. Sent back. Didn't take order and closed kitchen. Eventually complained. Main meal arrived before starter! Kept hot while starter came. Not fine dining, no way was value for money, certainly not at price charged. Didn't have pudding had enough of poor service and mediocre food by then.
Breakfast was not good either.
Staff unhelpful,We would NOT recommend this Place and the price was far in excess of what we saw, after some wonderful hotels in Scotland which our stay proceeded.
Lovely old property, disappointing food.
We had a dinner/bed breakfast deal which meant eating in the main restaurant as opposed to the bistro.Canapes were served before, but there was little choice on the main menu and what we received was very disappointing. The steak was tough and gristle, despite it being the most expensive dish, my partner had the wild mushroom roly poly which was stodgy and tasteless.
The room was spacious and comfortable and the spa lovely, as we had good weather that day.
Anniversary Break
Check in was alittle slow and staff worked very hard despite some staffing shortages. Food was excellent at all sittings and organisation for dinner was excellent to ensure we didn t wait at the dinner table for our food. Spa really worth a visit. Just had a few problems when settling the bill but all was rectified very quickly and with ease. A pleasant stay but quite a pricey short break. WiFi was very unreliable in our room - we couldn t get any connection in the room and had to access the WiFi in the bar area.
A relaxing break
We were made to feel extremely welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Food in the restaurant and bistro was excellent. There were plenty of rooms to relax in and the grounds were so peaceful. Thank you all the staff at Appleby Manor.
Pleasant 3 day break
We enjoyed our break at Appleby Manor. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable. Afternoon tea was spectacular. All in all, we enjoyed it here
