Brilliant break
We spent 5 nights at this lovely Lakeland hotel. You cannot fault the friendly , courteous staff nor their attentiveness at all times. The location was ideal for our purpose, convenient for the ferry and excellent bus services. The breakfasts and all other food was very good. We were disappointed that due to COVID limitations we could not book dinner every night. It would have been useful to know this prior to our arrival . We would recommend this hotel.
Relaxing night away
Have stayed here once before with friend 3 years ago. My husband had wanted to stay as we go to Bowness at least once a year. Arrival welcome was good, we decided to use the car parking service, 20, as it wasn't the best weather and we would have only saved about 6 parking nearby car park. We had superior double room, facing the lake. Amazing views from large windows. 2 comfortable chairs by window. Comfortable bed, pillows. Furniture bit dark and dated, but not shabby. Good wardrobe space, full length mirror, dressing gowns and slippers. Large shower, not great water pressure though! We used the pool and sauna, given towels and locker token, nice and relaxing. The 3 course meal was good choice, supplements for some items, but as you'd expect. Couldn't fault anything we ordered. To me after having previously stayed, the breakfast wasn't as good as it had been. Was decent choice of help yourself, fruit, yogurts, pastries, etc. Hot was ordered. One sausage, have had tastier, bacon, choice of egg, and half a tomato, the black pudding tasted and looked as if been cooked in loads of oil and not the best taste. Enough tea or coffee and toast. Drink prices from bar typical hotel prices. All in all a nice stay but as not a cheap place to stay we would probably not return, as have stayed in cheaper priced hotels which are equally as nice.
Very enjoyable stay
We stayed at the Old England when the weather was very hot. The only criticism was the window only opened a few inches in our bedroom on the first night and the fan, which was in the wardrobe, was very noisy thus we did not sleep, at all. We felt a bit uncomfortable going into the restaurant on the Monday morning as no staff wore masks and all the markings on the floor had been removed.
There is a lovely grass area overlooking the lake at the Old England, and in view of the temperature feel it would have been lovely if the tables could have had parasols, so we could have enjoyed the great view with a drink.
Reception staff were really helpful & friendly, especially helping with our car when disabled spots were not available.
Old England Hotel
Lovely overnight stay with warm and welcoming staff from the moment we arrived
Constructive points of view
Due to co.vid hotel resteraunt was a problem getting bookings on certain nights. Room was superior but not by any means luxurious. Very clean overall..partial view of lake as room was at back of hotel. Hotel should highlight to diners when faced with staff shortages.waiting times in bars and resteraunts became unacceptable. Having stayed at this hotel several times over the years was a little disappointing
Not the staff to blame but communication of problems needs to be addressed.
People can be very understanding if kept informed in advance. On two occasions almost missed sailing boarding times due to huge delays at breakfast. Enjoyed the break and location pity that waiting for service became an issue. However keep us I formed of other breaks as they become.e available elsewhere. Many thanks john blyth
