Not as 'Off Peak Luxury' as we hoped

The hotel was known to us from a previous visit but the location of our room was a real disappointment. Perhaps had we not been required to postpone due to the pandemic we may have enjoyed a more deluxe double room as we had originally booked but by the time we were able to visit, the hotel was much more busy. Overall an expensive couple of nights and not much of a memorable experience. In future we would be more inclined to book direct with the hotel rather than with a third party company offering 'extras' to secure the deal.

Beware the small print

Overall a very good hotel. Staff very friendly and welcoming.
A major problem was the car parking. 20 per day to park in a car park 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Not included in the price and apparently in the small print .
The price of wine and drinks was a little high and put us off buying.

Excellent find

Very comfportable hotel. Rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Lounge bar had fabulous views although service was a little slow but this was more than made up for by excellent food and good customer service overall. Would definitely stay here again

Faded carpets and rooms. Shinning cheerfull staff, but vastly overpriced.

Very enjoyable stay

We stayed at the Old England when the weather was very hot. The only criticism was the window only opened a few inches in our bedroom on the first night and the fan, which was in the wardrobe, was very noisy thus we did not sleep, at all. We felt a bit uncomfortable going into the restaurant on the Monday morning as no staff wore masks and all the markings on the floor had been removed.

There is a lovely grass area overlooking the lake at the Old England, and in view of the temperature feel it would have been lovely if the tables could have had parasols, so we could have enjoyed the great view with a drink.

Reception staff were really helpful & friendly, especially helping with our car when disabled spots were not available.
