Oldy Wordy Hotel tut doesn t quite hit the mark
This hotel is in a very good location, but is a little dated and tired in places, including the spa area. Comfortable rooms without a wow factor - pleasant but would not rush back, and value for money was pretty poor.
Disappointing
The check in process was not great, as we walked to our room their was a bad smell of old food in the corridor. The room was ok but calling it deluxe was not accurate. The bed was pretty comfortable though. We had hairs left in the shower and the lack of cleanliness was carried on in the restaurant where food stains were splashed up the window frame where we sat. The food was ok, though the portions were too small. The breakfast, though, was excellent. For just under 300 for one night, despite its location, we felt it was poor value for money.
Good but expensive.
The spa steam room was not working during our 2 night stay. We were asked during the meal if we wanted water. The 1 litre still bottle cost 5.50 which was charged on departure, which seems excessive. The hotel was booked by our son as a special treat at 239 from your special web site. However on booking dot com the same night was 407. Make your own mind up if you think this is value for money.
Old England Hotel Windermere
The hotel was in excellent location. Everything good, except prices. 19 for a glass of house wine. Draft lager old and not nice. And to charge 20 per day parking is a bit of a cheek too. Also, if I had booked the break direct with hotel, it would have been 60 cheaper.
Beautiful location . But left disappointed
Restaurant was a let down & not value for money. Restaurant staff appeared stressed. Shower kept running hot then cold. Bed very comfortable. Balcony did not make best of the beautiful view as when seated the view was of the wall. Overall, we felt that the hotel was living off its location so will always attract custom, however, they could do so much more especially what they offer in the restaurant. Breakfast was mediocre and we only attended on 2 occasions out of 4 as it really was not worth getting out of bed for.
Don't book a balcony room
As a treat my partner booked a 2 night stay in a balcony room.. I was very looking forward to staying in this room and fully expected a view of the lake.. Wrong.. Was more like a tetra e with a 5 foot wall. Partial view of lake and better view of car park. I believe I was put in this room as I had not booked direct.. A complete sham.. Definetly was not worth the money.. When I complained said basically hotel is full bit could move us the following day.. Not great when you are only staying 2 nights. Then said they would give us Dinner if we stayed put in the room we were go em... Sad as it was my 50th birthday weekend a year late due to lockdown... Don't waste your money on a balcony room. A room with no view. The assistant manager James was very nice but in sure he totally understood it was not what we had booked
