Relaxing Birthday Break
Booked this hotel as a birthday break for my wife.
Stunning location with comfortable room.
Nice clean bathroom but let down by a tatty and torn hand towel provided.
Customer service could have been better.Left standing at queue point for breakfast buffet while waitress continued to serve people at the queue point at the other side who arrived well after me.
Also had to challenge barman over drink charges and found was charged for a drink I did not have.
Despite these minor issues would recommend his hotel for a short stay based on the location alone.

Excellent stay
Thank you for arranging this beautiful stay in the Lake District for us very enjoyable
Beautiful location
2 couples stayed here last weekend & we loved the hotel. The staff were amazing, the room beautiful & the restaurant was magnificent. We would certainly stay again.
Disappointing
We have stayed at The Old England a few times and the evening meal has been very disappointing in recent years but gave it another try, we both had steak and paid a supplement of 12 each which was rather expensive, the meat was good but the chips let it down, obviously re-heated and cooked in disgusting oil. We stayed in room 233 the furthest room from reception and was disappointed with room. We have previously stayed in a balcony room on the ground floor which was so much nicer. We didn t feel paying for a so called premium room was worth the extra. We had the complimentary drink on arrival and then was charged for it on check out, with the receptionist following us to the car, most embarrassing. We would stay here again due to the excellent location.
Had a amazing time can t fault it. Will be going back and have told loads of family and friends x
Excellent Break
We've stayed at this hotel on many occasions over the years and have always enjoyed our experience. Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. Felt very safe and all measures were in place for Covid 19. Location of hotel is ideal for bars and restaurants in the area. Views from dining room are excellent overlooking the lake and it was lovely to sit and relax on the grassed area following breakfast. My favourite hotel in Bowness.
When marketing clashes with reality
August 2020, COVID19, staycation is the name of the like many other Brits we chose the fabulous Lake District. And in the district, we found some rooms at the Old England hotel
The advertisement and pictures looked lovely, and promised a four star spa hotel, with luxurious rooms and gourmet restaurant.
Reality however, was a bit different. First and foremost however I would like to thank the staff who did their best in most difficult times and were friendly, welcoming and managed to stay so and smile throughout what was probably the hottest week in the Lake District for a very long time, whilst wearing masks. And the pool was very nice, as was the gym. But that s it for the nice things I have to say about the hotel. The staff were lovely, really lovely
The can I say. We had three of them and all were just awful. Specifically, they were small, crammed, super hot with no air conditioning or any flow of air whatsoever. Which made life pretty difficult in the hottest week of 2020. And they looked nothing like a 4 star hotel. In fact, the hotel itself didn t look anything like a 4 star hotel. It actually looked like nobody has invested any money into it for the last decade, or in cleaning it on a regular basis.
So - if you re looking for a place to sleep and store your luggage, Old England is the place for you. If you re looking for something a bit extra, look elsewhere.
