Only downside was evening meal. Food could have been better. Poor flavours. Service from staff in restaurant was excellent
We will be back
An enjoyable stay with lovely staff and we would return in the future. However, there are some comments regarding our room that I would wish to mention. The majority of rooms had a balcony or outside space with a lake and mountain view. Our room had a view of the car park. The room was a good size. It was obviously meant for disabled people with two red cords in the bathroom and one over the bed, and additional handles and bar supports. There was a locked adjoining room. From this adjoining room we could here the occupant speaking quite clearly. He was on his phone until after midnight when we were trying to sleep, and again we could hear almost every word. Poor sound proofing !!
Memorable stay in Beautiful Setting
We both had an excellent stay in this comfortable country house hotel. We stayed here, maybe, 20 years ago and remembered it well. The room was comfortable and very clean, with the restaurant serving good food and all staff being very friendly and helpful. There were two downsides to our stay, one being the price of drinks at the bar. You don't expect to pay Weatherspoons prices in such a nice hotel but over 19 for two single gin and tonics was a bit much, needless to say we didn't buy anymore on principle. The second downside was that alternative breakfasts to a full English breakfast i.e. Eggs Benidict, were incurring a 6 supplement, there seemed to be no sense in paying more for a breakfast that takes less time to prepare. Obviously Mc Donalds are trying to get extra anyway they can but this pricing policy does take the edge off a nice stay.
Lovely Hotel, Staff so helpful & welcoming.
Lovely Hotel, Reception Staff so helpful & welcoming. In fact all the staff were so helpful.
Our room was very nice & the shower in the bathroom was amazing. Our 'deal' included an evening meal on the first night, it was good but it was certainly not worth 60pp.
We decided not to eat in the 2nd evening as we thought 60 pp was very overpriced.
Birthday celebration spoiler
The hotel is set in a beautiful area, with amazing vistas. The staff were very friendly and helpful, however the hotel is somewhat dated and in need of refurbishment.
The restaurant was a disappointment,we'd booked for a my wife's birthday celebration, but after the first dinner we decided to eat elsewhere, nicely presented food but with very little flavour, and carpaccio that had actually been cooked,(defrosted in a microwave)?
Room was not serviced during our 3 day stay, complimentary bottle of prosecco was not left in the room as specified.
Unfortunately too many things spoilt our stay in what could be an amazing location.
Tired but beautiful location
The hotel is situated on the side of Ullswater. The grounds are beautiful but the restaurant and rooms are very old fashioned and in need of updating. The restaurant lacks atmosphere because the food was good. Rooms are large but again need updating. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I would recommend if you don t mind traditional elegance.
Nice hotel but over priced
The hotel was very nice with very friendly staff. The views of the lake were lovely. We paid extra for a deluxe room and although it had a view of the lake, we felt the room was a bit tired looking. Our 'deal' included an evening meal on the first night and normally we would have paid for the next night but at 60 pp it was very overpriced especially for choices like pate and prawn cocktail. Also you had to pay extra at breakfast for things like avocado with egg and eggs benedict etc. These items should be included.
