HAPPY STAY

Rosie, Hampshire, stayed: September 2018

We stayed for two nights after a long tour in Scotland. What a wonderful experience. The staff were smashing, on the case and good fun - not stuffy but very efficient. Reception really good, bar and restaurant staff checked our experiences - we had a lot of laughter and enjoyed every minute. The food was lovely - the pumpkin veloute was seriously scrummy and my husband enthused over the duck.

A smashing trip - the log fires in the lounges with coffee and seriously good hand made chocolates finished us off. We slept really well - thank you.

Relief at the end of the m6

CM, Shropshire, stayed: October 2018

Our stay was blessed by perfect weather for an Indian Summer. The young staff are delightful and ready to go the extra mile for less mobile oldies. Concerning which, a lift would be a God send. The wine list was not too outrageous - x3 - but I never understand why the House wines should bear much mark up at all as readily available. Breakfast excellent; dinner good - the puddings excellent. Our bathroom (4) was miniscule. As my husband is a little uncertain on his feet, grab rails would help in the shower. Outside, the grounds and paths were well tended. Plenty of parking space

Sweet & Sour

BS, Derbyshire, stayed: February 2019

We stayed at the hotel for three nights . We have previously stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions. However this time we were left a little disappointed by the drop in, what had always been, high standards. We were unaware on booking that a major refurbishment was in progress at the hotel and although efforts were made by the hotel to soften the effects of the work on our stay, it did impact our enjoyment during our stay. We also thought that, although the staff were friendly and helpful, they seemed to be running around doing numerous tasks without much focus or professionalism. Although the food in the restaurant was very good, we did feel that the choice is now restricted, due in part to a seasonal menu now in place.

Beautiful hotel both inside and out. Excellent manager, receptionist, Bar staff, Waiting staff, attentive, efficient without being intrusive, many thanks to Chef and team for amazing food. Good choice for breakfast, well cooked and presented. Evening Dinner was first class, cooked and presented excellently. Could not fault anything at all.

A short break beside the Lake

Edward, Northumberland, stayed: July 2019

We had a lovely, relaxing short break here at the Cragwood and will certainly be back.
The manager and staff were exceptionally attentive to our needs and went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. The reception was very welcoming, friendly and efficient and set the scene for our stay.
The restaurant food and service was very good at both dinner and breakfast times.
However, one small thing that perhaps should be clarified for your customers in future is in relation to the dinner timings - identified as being at or 8.30pm.
Let me explain.
We booked dinner for 7.30pm, thinking we would commence eating around about that time as we don't like eating too late. We came down at 6.45pm on the first evening for pre-dinner drinks but our order wasn't taken until 7.30pm, with canapes delivered shortly thereafter, and dinner didn't commence being served until about 8.20pm - nearly an hour later than anticipated.
Whilst this didn't detract too much from our enjoyment of the meal it is, perhaps, something to be noted.
As we were now aware of how things were organised for dinner we changed our dining time to 6.30pm for the second evening, without any problem, and this was much better for us.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the gardens were a pleasure to walk in and enjoy, being very spacious and well maintained.
Everyone involved should be given a pat on the back. Thank you for a very enjoyable break.
