Anniversary Treat

What a lovely Hotel. The building and grounds are fabulous. The lake view from our upgraded room was magnificent. We had a really nice meal in the restaurant. We would certainly recommend to anyone who is visiting the area.
On our departure date we were blessed with good weather so we left the car on the hotel car park and walked into Ambleside , which took a hour and was an easy flat walk .

Charming country house hotel

Lovely country house hotel with stunning views over Lake Windermere. Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent food. Be aware however that the menu only changes each season & is somewhat limited. Evening dining is spread over 2 rooms, one has lovely ambience overlooking the lake but the other is a function room and is a bit soulless. Would thoroughly recommend staying here as in a perfect position next to Brockhole visitor centre where you can access boat trips around the Lake.

Two day break

The place was magical beautiful setting .perfect site. Friendly staff and so much to do. Would recommend to anyone.

Not so luxurious as I thought

Although some of the bedrooms we peeped at whilst staying looked gorgeous our bedroom was as tired looking you would expect from a much lower standard hotel. An old bathroom, dull old wallpaper with joins showing, stained old carpet, in fact we were shocked and disappointed with the room. We had babies crying by us and a couple doors away a dog yapping. No receptionist is available after I think 9pm and any enquiries made through a waiter. On a positive side the bedroom was clean although for the life of me I can t understand why these hotels are still on the Covid bandwagon by providing no room servicing especially for what they are charging. The staff were all wonderful and helpful and the gardens beautiful also the hotel position was very well placed for Ambleside and Bowness. Meals were minuscule and for 4* given they re build up to the restaurant I didn t expect babies crying, and people s inappropriate dress, it totally downgraded what the hotel was trying to achieve. I do understand it s a holiday hotel but you can t promote one thing and serve up another. Public room were well kept, historical and comfortable however our bedroom and the meals spoilt our stay.

Stay at Cragwood country house Aug 2023

This was our second visit to Cragwood country House. We enjoyed our stay and it was relaxing break. However, there were a couple of points which I think would improve the good rating to excellent. The room we stayed in was generally very spacious and the view of the lake were spectacular. However, the bathroom was very very small. My husband is 6 2 and this was particularly difficult manoeuvre!
The other point was that we stayed for two nights and were after we returned from the first day out that rooms were not made up only if you were staying longer and made up after the third day. Whilst I appreciate that we need to look after the environment ( which i fully support) i found it difficult to understand why beds were not made up and trash emptied.
This wasn t a major thing but like I said stopped this being a excellent rating. The food was excellent as was the service of the staff who worked extremely hard

Disappointing

Externally, this is a lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. The service, however, was poor, and the room was dark and quite old-fashioned. Although we had booked the restaurant for dinner, no tables were available and we were obliged to sit alone in the breakfast room instead, which was cold and lacking in atmosphere. We had paid a lot of money for a luxury dinner, bed and breakfast break, and this experience was very disappointing. Matters were not helped when we checked out. We were presented with a full bill for our stay, even though it had been paid in full in advance online.
