Enjoyable weekend

Charlotte, Lancashire, stayed: January 2024

Overall we had a lovely weekend, hotel was lovely staff couldn t do enough for us and our doggo.
Our room was a little dated and felt for the price we should have had something a little more well kept - carpet in room at a big stain and could do with changing.( dog friendly room yes but still should have clean carpets as we do have to pay extra to bring the dog! )
Breakfast was lovely and always very attentive
Drinks at bar were reasonable priced and the food was gorgeous
There was no room left at the spa when we tried to book which was disappointing.
Overall we probably ended up spending about 500 for the weekend bed an breakfast dinner on one of the nights bottle of Prosecco in room on arrival and a cream tea.
We did have a lovely time however based on how much we ended up spending probably won t be returning unless we win the lottery!

Great location - nice stay but didn't really deliver against its potential

Martin R, Lancashire, stayed: December 2023

We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package to celebrate our weeding anniversary - assuming we would be able to change in our room and go down to dinner without worrying about the gale raging outside. Sadly when we checked in we were told we'd been "upgraded" to a turret room - local code for a separate building in the grounds which was effectively a holiday home with hot tub. To get to the restaurant we had to don outdoor gear and walk down a flight of poorly lit steps to get to the hotel - further insult to injury caused by the lack of heating in the building because the boiler had tripped and had clearly been off for some time and not checked by housekeeping. Room temperatures were barely acceptable by the time we left!

The hotel was suffering from the classic "twixmas" dilemma - some areas not yet cleared up from functions on previous days while other areas clearly being prepared for the NYE celebration. This limits the communal areas available for guests and made selecting a comfortable location for our complementary cream tea something of a challenge.

Evening meal was nice (but overpriced for quality / quantity of portions) though service rather hit and miss and we felt we were an inconvenience as tables were being set for breakfast in the middle of dinner service. Choice and quality of draft beer in the bar a disappointment - breakfast buffer was however excellent.

All in all our stay was Ok but not what we'd hoped for based on the information on the countryhotelbreaks and hotel websites. Comparing it to a recent stay in Harrogate where we got much more for a lower price it didn't feel like great VFM.

Lovely hotel, excellent staff - Make sure you book the Spa though in advance!

Denise, Lancashire, stayed: December 2023

Everything was perfect about our stay apart from the disappointment on arrival to be informed we were not allowed access to the Spa as we have not pre booked. During the booking and on a subsequent follow up telephone call I was not informed that to access the Spa was only permitted if pre booked.

I find this misleading, I understood Spa treatments had to be pre booked. The reason we chose the hotel was to use the Spa facilities so our 1st impression was this is a mistake!

We say...

Thank you for your review.

We would just like to advise that it does indeed state on the Spa & Leisure tab on our website that the Thermal Use is £20 per person for 90 minutes, and £10 per person for any additional hours.

Must be pre booked.

The Thermal Journey is open from 10am – 6pm.

Kind regards,

Country Hotel Breaks

Beautiful building, gardens, staff very helpful and welcoming..excellent value for money surrounding area, particularly Cartmel is well worth a visit. Book Rogans restaurant in advance. I highly recommend Netherwood for a relaxing, romantic weekend away.

Great staff in a great hotel

GP, Essex, stayed: October 2023

As you travel up the drive and the Victorian edifice appears from amongst the trees and gardens, you know the stay is going to be good. On entering the reception lounge to a warming log fire, those thoughts are confirmed. The warm cosy surroundings would relax any weary traveller after a long journey.

I haven't stayed in a hotel recently where absolutely all the staff are so welcoming, helpful yet ultimate professional. Every one is a credit to the hotel; especially the restaurant and reception staff.

The room was good, we didn't get a view from the window other than the bottle bins from the bar below. The hot water tap in the sink was reluctant to give up its contents but generally cleanliness and appointment very good.

The Spa was wonderful and treatment reasonably priced.

Have already recommended them to friends. Would go back instantly.

Old characterful Hotel and adequate for our needs.

DS, Cumbria, stayed: September 2023

Room was really nice and ready earlier than expected.
However windows were very old leaded single glazed style and one side wouldn't shut leaving a sizeable gap for draught and noise, which was sleep disturbing.
Had to request our inclusive cream teas and prosecco treats.
Evening meal was a la carte and meagre portion size, although very tasty.
Breakfast was buffet style and OK,good sausage.

Fiona, Lancashire, stayed: September 2023

We had a lovely time and were impressed by the location friendly welcome and general service in the hotel. The area tea was lovely and we had it outside on the terrace with a lovely sea view. Our meal which came as part of the deal was really lovely and we weren't restricted for choice like you are on some of these sort of deals. The staff were all very courteous an helpful. Breakfast was a buffet with both hot and cold choices. Our room was only small and a tad dark but appeared to be newly decorate, For what we paid we more than happy with it. We had a very relaxing stay.

Mrs Sharples

FS, Lancashire, stayed: September 2023

Hotel nice but could do with some tlc.
Old couches un lounges need refurbishing.
Room 21 large but overlooks service alley.
Lovely location handy.
Dinner was disappointing, cream tea just one scone & tea! Service was poor ( tea arrived & then nothing for 30mins. Had to prompt reception. Staff shortage
tateless & small portions. Brfst was good and head waitress Lyndsy was excellent. Could just do with some attention to detail.
