Beautiful location

My wife and I had a fabulous stay at the Merewood Country House Hotel. The welcome was warm, the food was excellent and the room had lovely views over Windermere. The staff in all areas of the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly and they were a credit to the hotel. We would definitely recommend the hotel to others and we would definitely return.

Very relaxing and enjoyable couples break

We spent three enjoyable nights at Merewood Country House Hotel in late March in a comfortable, nicely decorated but slightly small double bed lake view room (too small for king size bed). As part of the deal, we had breakfast and evening meal included and a bottle of very nice tasting prosecco on arrival. Breakfasts were very relaxed with self-service buffet (coffee, tea & toast delivered to your table) and plenty of choice. The hotel has 2 restaurants, the main one being the grill room with plenty of menu choices and the Arboreal, a smaller, more intimate one where they serve an interesting taster menu. Service in both restaurants is again relaxed but professional and attentive at all times. There is plenty of space in all the public rooms with a true country house feel to the furnishings and decoration. There is also a well-stocked comfortable separate.bar. We were also lucky with the weather at the beginning of our stay and we took advantage of the sunshine in the lovely garden and outside sitting areas with views of Lake Windermere. All in all, a most pleasurable break in a wonderful location. Would definitely recommend and my wife and I will almost certainly be returning.

Wonderful hotel in beautiful surroundings

From the time we arrived to when we left,nothing was too much trouble and everything was excellent.
We would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend the hotel to our friends and family.

Quite taken aback on arrival both the surrounding and inside.
The evening meal was excellent hope to visit again next year.

Outstanding staff

I stayed in a twin room with my mother. The room was quite small but comfortable. There was a coffee machine, but no instructions for my small brain! Unfortunately none of the rooms have walk-in showers which is a disadvantage for my elderly mother.
The ambiance in the main rooms was so cosy and welcoming with wood panelling, magnificent fireplaces, roaring fires and beautiful antique furniture and tasteful soft furnishings.
I would like to make a special mention of the friendly, helpful staff, especially a young man from Birmingham.
We ate in Arboreal where the tasting menu was outstanding, especially the venison. Our waitress , name began with 'D', from Poland, was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
