Very relaxing and enjoyable couples break

We spent three enjoyable nights at Merewood Country House Hotel in late March in a comfortable, nicely decorated but slightly small double bed lake view room (too small for king size bed). As part of the deal, we had breakfast and evening meal included and a bottle of very nice tasting prosecco on arrival. Breakfasts were very relaxed with self-service buffet (coffee, tea & toast delivered to your table) and plenty of choice. The hotel has 2 restaurants, the main one being the grill room with plenty of menu choices and the Arboreal, a smaller, more intimate one where they serve an interesting taster menu. Service in both restaurants is again relaxed but professional and attentive at all times. There is plenty of space in all the public rooms with a true country house feel to the furnishings and decoration. There is also a well-stocked comfortable separate.bar. We were also lucky with the weather at the beginning of our stay and we took advantage of the sunshine in the lovely garden and outside sitting areas with views of Lake Windermere. All in all, a most pleasurable break in a wonderful location. Would definitely recommend and my wife and I will almost certainly be returning.

A good relaxing stay. Staff were very helpful.

Management and staff really good.

Ideally situated if like us you wanted to make use of the local buses and ferry on Windermere rather than our car. Every member of staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. We found the hotel provision for those with dogs was excellent which made our three night break. Our only reservation was that we did not get the lake view reserved, otherwise it would have the best short break we have had recently. The management did try very hard to make amends with complimentary bottles of wine and a good reduction on the price finally paid.

The rooms were ok.Hotel lovely. Fine dining restuarant was excellent. The bistro restuarant left a lot to be desired. Poor choice and basic meals. Would stay again but would only eat one night in fine dining and go elsewhere if staying more than one night.

Food and location great

Interior of hotel is jaded, but rooms are good and comfy, food is very good, and lots of little extras make it welcoming.

Excellent short break

Fulfilled all our expectations and more. Lovely staff and excellent room. The taster menu was outstanding. Would certainly stay again. Would highly recommend.

Excellent hotel

Very comfortable hotel with excellent friendly and helpful staff. The food, both breakfast and dinner, was excellent. Lovely to sit out and admire the view on a nice day. Close enough to Windermere town (2 miles) but far enough from the crowds.
