Relaxing retreat in the Lake district

CM, West Sussex, stayed: June 2021

The hotel was lovely and our room was beautiful but away from main hotel which had its advantages but not so good for my husband who finds stairs and walking difficult. The room was quite small for the amount of things in it but we did have a balcony which was excellent. The bathroom was superb. We didn't get the specials menu for our second night which was a shame as we would have probably enjoyed the options. I had an email 3 days before our stay saying the pool would not be open and when we got there found out that it had been open for a while on a booking basis. We hadn't got our swimming gear so unfortunately couldn't enjoy the facilities.

A lovley stay in a lovely hotel

DL, North Yorkshire, stayed: October 2019

In a nutshell, a very good hotel however our first night was marred somewhat by a very slow service from the resturant. Nearly two hours for dinner to be served. The food was excellent when we got it although i think some breakfast items had been reheated and frankly the bacon was like cardboard. Overall, lovely staff, rooms and facilities, when normality resumed in the resturant dinner was a joy. We will return again.

Great value for money

Brenda D, stayed: March 2019

A very pleasant hotel with stunning views over Lake Windermere and surrounding hills from all public rooms and terrace . Staff were extremely polite and pleasant at all times . Meals were beautifully cooked and presented .Room was tastefully decorated ,one small niggle with a 6 feet tall husband the wall light on the sloping roof of bedroom was a bit of a hazard for night time bathroom visits . Light could maybe be situated behind the bed instead . Great location for getting about by public transport . Bus stops available on the main road and in Windermere bus station . After a day walking around though the uphill road back to the Hotel was a bit of a struggle . The clue is in the name I suppose HILLTHWAITE . With afterthought we could have taken the car to the bottom of the hill each morning . Problem solved .

Pleasant stay

Anon, stayed: April 2019

The hotel was well located for visiting several tourist sites. The car park was sometimes difficult to negotiate and parking spaces were tight. Breakfasts were good, dinners were ok, some menu choices better than others. Staff were excellent. The room was clean, well equipped and there was a view of mountains in the distance. The decor however was somewhat gloomy, dark and oppressive.

Lovely weekend break

Emma, Lancashire, stayed: March 2019

Lovely hotel in great location for exploring the Lake District . The hotel is of well above the normal standard you would expect for this price range and targets the higher end market of customers willing to pay that extra for good service and luxuries . Great food, alcohol on the expensive side 25 for bottle of wine with evening meal and although leisure facilities very welcome pool is small and very shallow . Would recommend and re visit .
