Lovely weekend break
Lovely hotel in great location for exploring the Lake District . The hotel is of well above the normal standard you would expect for this price range and targets the higher end market of customers willing to pay that extra for good service and luxuries . Great food, alcohol on the expensive side 25 for bottle of wine with evening meal and although leisure facilities very welcome pool is small and very shallow . Would recommend and re visit .

Couldn't have asked for more...
Stepping into the hotel foyer was like arriving at the home of a glamorous friend. Someone who is going to treat you like royalty, with your every wish attended to, but who will also ensure you feel like family at the same time. The room was well appointed, with lovely finishing touches for that extra element of luxury- and the view, even on a grey day was breathtaking.
Dining and bar provision were exquisite- well thought out and perfectly executed. And on top of all of this elegant living, the staff were some of the finest I have ever encountered. A fabulous blend of attentive, professional and lovely people! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.
Great value for money
A very pleasant hotel with stunning views over Lake Windermere and surrounding hills from all public rooms and terrace . Staff were extremely polite and pleasant at all times . Meals were beautifully cooked and presented .Room was tastefully decorated ,one small niggle with a 6 feet tall husband the wall light on the sloping roof of bedroom was a bit of a hazard for night time bathroom visits . Light could maybe be situated behind the bed instead . Great location for getting about by public transport . Bus stops available on the main road and in Windermere bus station . After a day walking around though the uphill road back to the Hotel was a bit of a struggle . The clue is in the name I suppose HILLTHWAITE . With afterthought we could have taken the car to the bottom of the hill each morning . Problem solved .
Various
The Hotel could be a lot better ,it let's itself down by not having the simple things right.
1.the pillows were like house bricks...
2.one pkt of biscuits to very mean
We had to leave two notes for housekeeping to leave shower gel...
3 went to reception once again for no shower gel or shampoo left.
.these things are all very basic stuff..
The breakfast I would mark down no local bread on offer ,just passible thin sliced bread on offer..
Pleasant stay
The hotel was well located for visiting several tourist sites. The car park was sometimes difficult to negotiate and parking spaces were tight. Breakfasts were good, dinners were ok, some menu choices better than others. Staff were excellent. The room was clean, well equipped and there was a view of mountains in the distance. The decor however was somewhat gloomy, dark and oppressive.
Fabulous break
We had a great stay for our 40th Wedding Anniversary lovely room and great view .
