Relaxing Break at Borrowdale Gates Hotel

Our friends had recommended the hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The hotel had recently been refurbished and it felt luxurious but cosy, with a really nice atmosphere. The food was excellent, with the menu changing daily with a range of starters, mains and desserts to suit every taste. We were sorry to leave and hope to return again soon.

Excellent stay

We stayed for 2 nights and were made to feel very welcome. It s the little touches like complimentary tea & biscuits on arrival, help with luggage and the inclusion of tea/coffee & petit fours after dinner that make the difference. The room (Mandarin) was extremely comfortable with a large bathroom with bath & separate shower; it was also very quiet and we slept very well, before waking to the incredible views of the fells. The food was exceptional with a great choice at both dinner and breakfast, all presented very attractively and served by the pleasant and helpful staff. If you want to walk in the local area there is no need to use the car, but the hotel is equally well located for visiting Keswick and the surrounding areas of the Lakes. The lounge area is very welcoming and relaxing with views over the garden. We were lucky enough to spot the local red squirrels as well as the birds on the feeders outside the restaurant. We would love to return for another visit.

Relaxing break with amazing food

The hotel is in a beautiful location - ideal views and near to the lake and a variety of walks. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The food in the evening and at breakfast was first class- I can understand the awards that the hotel has won. We were looking forward to the evening meal every night and were never disappointed in the food or the service. Would not hesitate to return.

A rare treat

There are many good country house hotels but Borrowdale Gates is right at the top. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly. A key advantage is so many walks from the door.
