Relaxing Break at Borrowdale Gates Hotel

Our friends had recommended the hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The hotel had recently been refurbished and it felt luxurious but cosy, with a really nice atmosphere. The food was excellent, with the menu changing daily with a range of starters, mains and desserts to suit every taste. We were sorry to leave and hope to return again soon.

Wonderful lakes break

Fortunate with the weather, it was glorious. Hotel and staff looked after us very well. Area is fantastic. On the Sunday did the ferry all round the lake and then got dropped off at base of catbells which we then climbed all 451 m of it, a bit scrambly but views at the top are brilliant. Monday did the walk from the hotel all round Derwentwater lake which came out at 11.9 miles but it was worth it. It was good to get back for afternoon tea, a rest and then a very nice dinner in the evening. All in all a great lakes break made even better by the hotel and staff.

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. Staff are friendly, accommodating, and very able. The food is excellent, with a superb breakfast spread. Finishing touches are the lovely log fire, the many birds attracted to the garden feeders, and the visits from the red squirrels!

Review of Borrowdale Gates Hotel

A hotel with a high standard of service and a fine dining restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient. The location in the Borrowdale Valley is quite idyllic. Very convenient to climb the very popular Cats Bell.

Beautiful Borrowdale Hotel

Absolutely fabulous stay, just wish it could have been longer. Borrowdale is stunning and after a hot day walking the welcoming and relaxing atmosphere was all we needed. The hotel is in a quiet location with fantastic views and contemporary decor. Food was faultless and the staff so friendly.

A wonderful stay

The hotel was great in every way this was especially important as we had taken 9 hours to get there due to hold ups on the M6!
